The Essentials: Before the Semester Begins

  1. Download Print the New Faculty Checklist
  2. Human Resource (HR): schedule time to complete compliance training, you will receive emails about accessing online training.

Preparing for the Semester

  1. Obtain Classroom Keys from department administrative staff
  2. Syllabus – build a syllabus and visit http://approval.ufl.edu/syllabus-requirements Links to an external site. for information related to UF Syllabus policy.  Check with your department for specific requirements.
  3. Academic Calendar: visit the UF Catalog Links to an external site. website for information related to dates and deadlines.
  4. Registrar Links to an external site.:  Term start and end dates, holidays and the final exam schedule.
  5. LMS – UF uses Canvas as the learning management system. Get assistance with Canvas and other great training from the UFIT Training Links to an external site..

Prior to The First Day of Class

  1. Visit classroom(s): take time to orientate yourself to the building(s) where your classes will take place. As you visit each of the classrooms, take note of the technology (i.e. projector, computer, television, etc.), as well as student desks and other materials.
    • If you will be using your own laptop or mobile device, test out the connections and cables to ensure it is set up prior to classes beginning.
    • If you will be using the current classroom technology set-up, make sure you test out the computer by logging in, ensure all desktop applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, SPSS, Adobe products, etc.) are available and working properly. If they are not, or if you need certain applications downloaded, contact the UF Help Desk by calling 352-392-4357 or via email  helpdesk@ufl.edu
    • UFIT also offers a number of applications via UF Apps. Links to an external site. These applications are hosted on the network so that you do not have to download each software application individually. UF Apps include: Microsoft Office Suite, SPSS, Nvivo, R, StataSE, Tableau Desktop, among many others.
  2. Print out a roster of each class. For smaller courses, you may also consider printing out a Photo Roster.
