Sample Flipped Advising Courses

Sample Flipped Advising Courses

Overview

At the University of Florida, we have developed multiple types of courses for advising units. All courses have been not-for-credit, but may fulfill requirements set forth by the advising unit or department (e.g., hold removal, advising forms, internship agreements, etc.).

This module includes limited views of sample courses that were developed at the University of Florida. If you have any questions about this content, please contact Leslie Mojeiko at lmojeiko@ufl.edu.

Sample Courses

  • First Year Engineering
    • This course was treated as a required orientation for all first year students in the College of Engineering. At the University of Florida, engineering students remain with one advising unit for the first year, then transition to the advising unit of their major department. This course had three phases: 1) Summer Orientation, 2) Academic Planning, and 3) Moving Forward. The following were involved in the development of this course: three instructional designers, eight academic advisors, eight peer advisors (upper-level students), one education technologist, and a studio that supported video production.
  • Exploratory Roadmaps
    • This course was developed as an optional resource for undecided students at the University of Florida. Students were encouraged to complete five modules to discover their interests, values, and personality, and how it relates to different major and career options. The following were involved in the development of this course: one instructional designer, four academic advisors, one career advisor, one education technologist, and a studio that supported video production.
  • Computer Information & Science & Engineering Undergraduate Advising
    • This course was developed as a resource hub for students majoring in CISE. All required forms were housed in this course, along with internship opportunities, announcements, and student showcases.
