ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Online Student

mcb_icon_1.pngOnline B.S. Degree Program

The Online B.S. in Microbiology is a 2+2, 4-year program that allows students to obtain a B.S. degree from the University of Florida after completing 2 years of prerequisites as part of an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from other universities, state colleges, or community colleges. Students who complete these prerequisites can then apply to transfer into the online program as a junior student at UF.

The program consists of approximately 50 upper division credit hours designed to be completed in two years of enrollment. Students who work full-time or have other commitments that allow for less time to devote to classes are encouraged to take courses at a slower pace that works best for them.

Course Requirements

All students should complete the required departmental courses at the University of Florida, unless approved by your advisor.  Microbiology related courses taken at the state college level cannot be used for core or departmental elective credits.  This includes two labs, MCB3023L and MCB4034L, that are taken in person in Gainesville. Each lab is 5 days long and held in early May.

Transient Coursework

Students are required to complete CHM2210 Organic Chemistry 1 (3 credits), CHM2211 Organic Chemistry 2 (3 credits), and CHM2211L Organic Chemistry Laboratory (2 credits) in person at a local accredited institution.  Note that some schools offer CHM2210L and CHM221L as one credit each, and in this case students are required to complete both lab courses to total 2 credits.
