How to study

You have numerous resources to help you prepare for exams. I would suggest preparing in the following way:

Complete the homework for the 2 Modules you will be testing on.

The homework is designed to slowly work you up to the main concepts and skills of the course. Completing the homework is highly correlated with success on the exams (CORREL=0.7 on average). This should always be your first step in preparing.

Take notes about each Module.

These notes should help you as you begin preparing for a Module AND may be useful when you get to future Modules. Try to organize your notes around answering the following questions:

  • What does the function look like?
  • How do you build the function?
  • How do you go from the equation to the graph (or vice-versa)?
  • How do you solve equations of this type?

Take an exam from a previous semester.

You can find previous exams at: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1uoq5vlXeZIKUHu-B4Qyjoap1G7vWgYIp Links to an external site.. You will be able to use a calculator and no other materials.

LEARN FROM YOUR PRACTICE RESULTS

The keys tell you what types of errors you made on the exam. With the keys, you should be able to immediately tell what you did wrong and how to improve. If you can’t, you should seek out help from:

  • Broward Tutoring (if you are an on-campus student);
  • Content videos/homework;
  • Contacting the coordinator or TAs.
