Progress Quizzes

What are they?

As a Mastery-Based course, you need multiple opportunities to show you have not only attempted a concept, but have understood the concept. Compare this to a traditional course, where you cover dozens of concepts and only need to show you partially understand some of them to pass. This leads to a foundation riddled with holes that eventually cannot support new concepts. In this course, you are allowed to fail. Failure is natural and is part of the learning experience. Thus the quizzes in the course are built and graded knowing that:

  • You may not master something on your first opportunity;
  • You can learn from your failure;
  • Everyone will work at different paces through the material; and
  • Everyone will need specific feedback so they can learn from their failure.

Progress Quizzes are meant to track your progress in the course. They act as gates to make sure you are ready to move on to new material. This lets you focus on a small amount of material and master it rather than push you along in the course! There will be a total of 10 Progress Quizzes in all -- approximately one every week.

What do they look like?

Each Progress Quiz will be 10 multiple-choice questions from each of the 2 Modules you are on. You will have 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the quiz. Previous quizzes are available here. Links to an external site.To show mastery of a Module, you need to answer at least 8 of the 10 questions correctly. Grades will be displayed by Module. Here is an example progression a student could make through the semester.
