Instructor Meeting 1
Meet with your instructor in Zoom at the time specified for your group on Thursday afternoon. You will have been informed by now exactly when your group attends during this scheduled two hour block for synchronous meetings for this class.
You synchronous meeting this week will provide a general introduction to the Discover German course sequence, focusing on:
1. Chapter dialogues and associated vocabularies, grammar presentations and pages, and graded "practice" quizzes.
2. Weekly group work activities consisting of 1) grammar writing tasks in which you will produce example sentences that involve the grammatical structures you are learning that week; 2) preparatory work on Online Skits that your group will present at the end of each chapter, to which you are encouraged to adapt the work you have done in your grammar writing tasks; 3) periodically cultural activities of different kinds. (The presence of aforementioned will vary somewhat from week to week; click on any given week's group activities to see exactly what you have to do.)
3. The German Grammar Cruncher application and your German Avatar-Image (Avatarbild) that you will use to represent yourself visually in the Online Skits as online language learning tools.
4. Biweekly sessions with LinguaMeeting German language coaches.
5. Biweekly synchronous student-instructor meetings: these will be organized largely around using the chapter dialogue to practice pronunciation and to ask/answer questions that elicit the grammatical constructions under study in each chapter. FYI: The Magic of Q&A
6. Chapter tests and final exam: consisting of materials you will have seen in the "practice" quizzes and grammar writing tasks testing your individual capacity to produce sentences containing the grammatical structures under study.
7. Chapter 1 Exam with Honorlock: includes grammar items such as those you have already done in the practice quizzes; also, you will use a Grammar Cruncher with the chapter 1 vocabulary to write two sentences each about the weather, two sentences describing the color(s) of something, and two basic calculations with German numbers. 8. Any other business.

Students are expected to attend all six student-instructor meetings and all six LinguaMeeting meetings. Each unexcused absences will result in a lowering of your final grade by a single position ( i.e. A to A-, A- to B+, etc.).
