This assessment covers the material presented in the lectures and required readings associated with this module. Be sure you have viewed all lectures and carefully read all required readings before starting the assessment.

The questions ask you to demonstrate your ability to do the following:

  1. Calculate speedup for instructions running on a pipelined datapath over a single cycle datapath.
  2. Describe structural hazards, control hazards, and data hazards.
  3. Identify how forwarding can be used to reduce data hazards.
  4. Trace instructions that include branches and data hazards as they execute on a pipelined processor.
  5. Describe static and dynamic branch prediction techniques.
