This assessment covers the material presented in the lectures and required readings associated with this module. Be sure you have viewed all lectures and carefully read all required readings before starting the assessment.

The questions ask you to demonstrate your ability to do the following:

  1. Calculate average memory access time (AMAT) for look-aside and look-through caches.
  2. Articulate the spatial and temporal locality principles that make caches useful.
  3. Calculate hit rates for fully associative, direct mapped, and set associative caches.
  4. Calculate cache locations for memory requests for fully associative, direct mapped, and set associative caches.

  • You will have up to 50 minutes to complete all 5 questions.
