National Standards, Performance Standards, and Quality Assurance
Module 9

In this module the discussion focuses on the standards supporting dispatch.

This module also reviews quality initiatives that communication centers should utilize to assure that their program is addressing areas of weakness.

Objectives

After completing this module, students will be able to:

    • Discuss the difference in national, state, and local standards.
    • Define measurements of time including fractile, average, sample, and outlier records.
    • Discuss best practices upon responder arrival on scene.
    • Discuss the EMS quality initiative focus.
    • Explain differences in fire, law enforcement, and EMS quality initiatives.

Readings

Read Chapter 9, "National Standards, Performance Standards, and Quality Assurance" in the textbook.

Discussions

In Discussion 9, answer the "What would you do" questions at the beginning of the chapter.

Your initial post must be at least 48 hours prior to any secondary posts.

Assignments

Read any posted announcements. After reading Chapter 9 in the textbook, answer review questions 1, 2, 5, 6, 9, and 10 at the end of the chapter. Also, after reviewing the information from the National Response Framework, summarize the critical factor in the article in the textbook. Both assignments can be included in Assignment 9
