Woche 2

Overview

This week introduces a variety of vocabulary and grammar topics. You will start by learning the forms of 'haben' and 'sein' as well as the pronouns for formal and informal address. You will then learn some basic vocabulary pertaining to colors, greetings, and numbers. In addition to numbers, you will discover how to perform basic calculations in German. You will learn language pertaining to time and the weather. Finally, you will be introduced to the names of the German Bundesländer and their capital cities.

Every week from now on, you will have a group work assignment. This week, you will get to know the other students in your group as you collaboratively practice using the Kapitel 1 vocabulary along with the Grammar Cruncher.

Every other week, there will be an instructor meeting.This week, you and your group will meet with the instructor to review the course and discuss any questions you may have.

At the end of every chapter, you will complete an individual writing assessment. To conclude Kapitel 1, you will answer some questions about the chapter vocabulary and then do some writing tasks, for which you will be able to use the Grammar Cruncher.

Objectives

At the end of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Recognize, understand, and employ forms of 'haben' and 'sein'.
  2. Recognize, understand, and employ pronouns for formal and informal address.
  3. Recognize, understand, and employ the words for basic colors.
  4. Recognize, understand, and employ vocabulary for greetings and introductions (e.g., your hometown, major).
  5. Recognize, understand, and employ numbers.
  6. Perform basic calculations in German using numbers.
  7. Recognize, understand, and employ language pertaining to time.
  8. Recognize, understand, and employ language pertaining to the weather.
  9. Recognize, understand, and employ the names of the German Bundesländer and their capital cities.
  10. Provide constructive feedback to other beginning language learners regarding pronunciation and grammar.
