Module 3: Overview
In this chapter we will examine the incident command components of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and will discuss the organizational structure, specifically the components of a successful structure in addition to the standard stipulated by NIMS.
Objectives
After this module, the student will be able to:
- Describe the components of NIMS
- Identify and explain the positions within ICS Command Staff
- Describe an Unified Command Structure

Assignments
Select a major terrorism event such as the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, etc. You will need to prepare a 7 page paper (Content) on how your agency/jurisdiction handle management of these events. Specifically, addressing the utilization of the ICS and NIMS, what agencies would be a part of the Unified Command and what role, if any would the EOC play. If you are not a first responder, how would you address a major event?
