Module 6: Overview
In this chapter, we examine threats that occur both from within the country and abroad. We discuss a common warlike activity, rioting, and present an examination of two case studies. Lastly, we examine potential problems that occur during operations at events of national significance, and particularly bombing incidents.
Objectives
After this module, the student will be able to:
- Provide examples of homeland security local threats
- Provide examples of homeland security imported threats
- Describe pre-incident security preparation strategies
- Identify potential problems during civil disturbance operations

Discuss at least three (3) soft targets within your community and what planning your department/jurisdiction has done/is doing (if anything) to harden these locations. If you are a non- first responder identify three locations within your community and address proactive measures to strengthen these locations.

Assignments
You are applying to become a Chief Officer or a Director of Emergency Management in New York City, Washington DC or Los Angeles. As part of your interview process you are asked to prepare a report on the various homeland security and/or terrorism threats that have or could occur in the selected jurisdiction. The requirement is to send a formal paper to the interview committee a week in advance on the various homeland security and/or terrorism threats in selected jurisdiction and why they are prevalent or possible in that location. In addition, the committee wants to know how you will prepare yourself and the agency to manage these events should they occur. Using your text and other sources for research and review, submit a research paper of at least 6 pages (not including title page and bibliography).
