Formatting Text & Media Text Highlights
Highlighting text with a different background color gives it emphasis and can be effective for getting students' attention. While it is possible to use the Canvas editor to highlight text, the sidebar adds options to format the highlighted text as a badge or pill.
Instructions
Add a text highlight
- Place your cursor in the editor where you want the highlighted text to go, or select the existing text that you want to highlight.
- Open the Add New Elements ( tab in the sidebar. )
- Select the Text Highlight tool. The Edit Current Element ( ) tab opens with Text Highlight selected as the active tool.
- In the Content panel, enter the text to be highlighted. Then click (add space after highlight) to prevent unintended highlighting immediately following the highlighted passage.
- Open the Style panel and use the options to control the appearance of the highlighted text.
- Choose from the default (rectangular), badge, or pill styles.
- Check the box(es) to enable emphasis (italics) or boldface.
- Click Highlight Color to select the foreground and background colors from the DesignPLUS color palettes.
- To remove the highlight, click Remove Highlight.
Edit highlighted text
- Select the Edit Current Element ( ) tab in the sidebar.
- Select or place your cursor within the highlighted text you want to modify.
- Choose Text Highlight as the active tool:
- Use the options available in the Content and Style panels to make the desired changes.
