PlayPosit Student Instructions

Overview

This course uses PlayPosit to provide interactions within the online videos. When you click on a video thumbnail, the PlayPosit video will open in a new tab for you to watch and complete the interactions (e.g., multiple choice questions, discussion forums, polling surveys, reflective pauses, etc.). Why is this course using PlayPosit? There is extensive research Links to an external site. to support the use of interactive videos in an online environment to enhance student engagement and retention. The interactions provide an opportunity for you to assess and apply your understanding of the concepts that are being discussed in the video.

  It is highly recommended by PlayPosit that you use the Google Chrome Links to an external site. web browser when viewing and interacting with the videos.

Playing a PlayPosit Video

When you click on a video thumbnail, the video will open in a new tab for you to watch and complete the interactions. If the video is linked to any assignment, the video will appear under the assignment's directions. To begin, click the Play button in the center of the video, and any interactions will appear on-screen throughout the video.

PlayPosit Video Settings

You can click on the settings icon  in the bottom right corner of your screen to:

  1. Make the video full-screen
  2. Adjust the volume
  3. Adjust the video playback speed
  4. Change the video stream source of the video (especially important if one of the sources isn't working)
  5. Enable or disable captions (if available)

Taking Notes In a PlayPosit Video

If you would like to take notes while watching the PlayPosit video, click on the sidebar icon and then the Notes tab. At the bottom of the sidebar, type in your notes. Click on the arrow icon to save your notes. 

You will be able to download your notes as a text document and search your notes to refer back to topics or concepts within the video.

Interactions

While watching the PlayPosit video, interactions will appear on-screen. For most interactions, the video will pause until you complete the interaction. For question items, select a response and then click on the Submit button. Next, you will see question feedback, and you can click on the Next/Continue button to move forward in the video. For all other interactions, you can click on the  in the sidebar to close the interaction.

Completing a PlayPosit Video & Grading

To complete a PlayPosit video, make sure you complete all interactions and watch the video until the end. You'll know you completed the PlayPosit video because the sidebar will open and will display the Sync Status as Submitted and Complete with your overall score, if applicable.

If the PlayPosit video is a graded assignment in Canvas, you will need to complete all interactions and watch the video until the end to receive a score in the Gradebook. Multiple-choice, check-all, and fill-in-the-blank questions are automatically graded, whereas free-response questions are manually graded by the instructor. If the PlayPosit video contains any free-response questions, you will need to wait for the instructor to sync the grades for your score to appear in the Gradebook.

Some PlayPosit videos may have the Retry feature enabled. If this is the case, you will be able to retry the PlayPosit video as many times as you would like. The Retry Bulb button will appear in the sidebar under the Review tab. Please note, if you click on Retry Bulb, your score will reset to 0 in the Gradebook, and only your latest attempt will be counted. PlayPosit does not retain the lowest, highest, or average score, only the latest score from the video.
