Course Orientation

Welcome to the Course

EMS Special Operations looks at many different specialized teams that many EMS agencies have adopted. You may look at one particular specialty and realize it is something you would like to learn more about when joining a team that provides such services. It may even come down to you taking the leadership role in creating a team to provide such services. This course provides an overview of many of these teams and prepares you to implement a specialized team if you desire. More and more of these teams are needed because of the way the world is evolving, and we need to be prepared to handle such events. What are the students learning?

Key Course Elements

The goal of this course is to expose you to as many specialized teams in EMS as possible. There may be some teams missing, but these are some of the main ones out there. In the end, you should be able to conceptually put a team together based on your needs.

There are two main types of activities for each module. A discussion and an assignment. The assignments mainly involve review questions at the end of each chapter. You do not have to write your answers in APA format; rather, you have to name the chapter and then write the question number, the question, and the answer for any review question assignments. The discussion assignments vary depending on what is requested. Pay particular attention to when your initial post is due. It is before the actual due date so that your peers and you can respond to one another's posts and not wait until the last minute.

When you respond to discussion posts, please do so in a dialogue mode. Be critical but not negative in your response. Think about a classroom and how you would respond to a similar situation. This should be a back-and-forth. Use it as a discussion.

I will try to have your assignments graded as quickly as possible. Pay attention to your grades, and please contact me if you have questions. Remember all assignments must be submitted at least one week before the final.

Students complete a mid-semester to give feedback to the instructor regarding the elements of this course. These anonymous surveys are a way for you to provide honest feedback on the course. This feedback is essential to provide the best quality instruction and give you, the learner, the best learning experience. You are asked to give your honest opinion and to share any advice you have to make the course better. You will be asked questions regarding the instructor's presence, lectures, assignment quality, etc.

Mid-Semester Survey

This survey will take place during week 6 of the course. If you get the chance to provide feedback, please do. This enables us to improve or keep what we have in place. It is your chance to provide this critical information.
