EYE CONTACT – always watch the signer(s) in any location or media, remember to watch the face and use the signing space/frame

SILENCE – always have voice/English off in the classroom, at silent meals, around Deaf signers, try not to mouth either

SIGNING – always sign in the classroom, at silent meals, around Deaf signers

Demonstrate respect for diversity in the classroom for people of different backgrounds, learning styles and pace.

Be aware of “Deaf-friendly” practices.

Dress for easy viewing – solid contrasting color covered tops, less “loud” jewelry, nails, hair off face, etc. especially for presentations

A combination of extra credits can be earned for extra hours in silent meals, Deaf community events, or volunteer hours for a maximum of 20 points – a total of 4 hours, each activity is a maximum of 5 points. Extra hours can be used to make up for excused missed quizzes.

One volunteer hour is equal to .5 Deaf community hour. One ASL movie hour is equal to .5 Deaf community hour. Signing Gator sponsored events such as ASL Idol or guest speakers count for regular hours.

A reaction paper must be attached for each Deaf community or volunteer event (at least one typed doubled-spaced full page per hour).

At least two (2) Silent Meal hours must be completed each month (Jan - April) to be counted. Language Lab has period scheduling but plan on staying a full hour each time.

There will be assignment directions and rubrics posted and/or explained before they are due.

Sign Performance Projects

Song project – due 9/17 – retell song perfomed by a Deaf performer, preferably from www.d-pan.org upload video to Canvas, must be suitable to use for ASL Idol, strongly encouraged to sign up by 09/3!

2 ASL Literature stories – create own original versions - ABC, 123, Single Handshape, Personification, Classifier story, Rhythm/ASL Song, or Name/Word Story – projects videos are to be to uploaded to Canvas, selected stories for class presentations – ABC story due 10/15, other 2 ASL Lit stories due 11/12
