Establish Advisor Presence

Overview

Flipped advising course sites are a great way to establish advisor presence before a student steps foot into your office. In this advising model, advisors create and maintain relationships by communicating and sharing content both asynchronously and synchronously in an online environment. This communication enhances the in-person advising session and leaves more time to focus on meaningful, authentic conversations that promote a student-centered approach to advising.

In e-Learning, advising courses should have a Start Here module that provides a clear starting point for students where they will also meet their advisors and find out how the course works. This module sets the foundation for advisor presence in your course and is a great place to greet students through an introduction discussion and/or welcome video.

Implementing regular text or video announcements, including feedback on all assignments, and engaging in frequent discussions can reinforce advisor presence throughout the semester.
