Objectives
1. Learn the importance of being an objective researcher
2. Discuss the challenges that many researchers face in regards to objectivity and evaluation on a day-to-day basis
3. Understand the importance of accurately collecting data
4. Identify the many sources of bias that may be encountered, from cognitive biases through to experimental design and data processing.
5. Discuss methods to eliminate or minimize these biases
Ethical Dilemma Case Studies
Divide students into groups, provide them with case studies and challenge them to define what practices they consider to objective and ethical and which they deem unethical and why. The NIH provides a variety of case studies and examples for different research cases on their site.
