Assignments
Assignments
Assignments, like lectures and videos, vary depending on the instructor, the course goals, the topic of the lesson, and a variety of other factors. In UF Online, your graded assignments will take on many different forms, all submitted easily within Canvas as uploaded files, text-entry, discussions, or even links to work you’ve created in other online tools.
Assignments that you need to turn in for a grade can be found in one place, in the Assignments tool in the left (main) navigation. Below, and later in this module, you can take a look at example assignments that reflect the kinds of things you might see in UF Online courses.
Many written assignments will be sent through TurnItIn, which compares submitted works to a database of billions of papers to determine similarity and help instructors identify incidents of plagiarism. The University of Florida is committed to keeping the playing field level and elevating students based on their own unique efforts.

Discussions
As we described in the Communication & Interaction module, instructors use Discussions as the home base for course questions, introductions, and more. These are “asynchronous” and text-based conversations, although you can embed video, audio, and images in your replies!
Often, Discussions will be graded activities that also show up in the Assignments tool. These kinds of Discussions typically involve your instructor posing a question, a task, or a reflective prompt to which you and your classmates will respond - both to the prompt and to each other.
