Language learning requires a lot of active engagement. Throughout the semester, students will be graded in this category on their presence in class (physical presence in the room and mental presence free of distractions like technology) as well as on their active participation in lecture (asking or answering questions, translating together, etc.) and in group activities (offering opinions, thoughts, or ideas, volunteering to be the scribe, etc.).

Regardless of participation or presence, unauthorized use of cell phones and any use of headphones can and will result in an automatic 0 for the day's Occupātiō grade. Take important calls outside of the classroom.

After three unexcused absences, students can lose up to 1 point from their final grade per absence.

If you're not the type who participates well in a small class setting like ours, I can offer alternatives. Pose a question every once in a while on Forum, our class' general discussion page, or sometimes write down some questions, notes, observations, etc., on a piece of paper to turn in to the instructor to show that you are paying attention and wanting to participate.
