PlayPosit Faculty Instructions

Overview

PlayPosit 3.0 is a tool that enables you to easily add interactive content to videos, allowing you to personalize learning pathways, embed simulations, create branching scenarios, and build threaded discussion boards. Interactive video and audio transform your students’ passive observation into active learning, where online and conventional learners can explore, analyze, and apply concepts through enriched learning content.

PlayPosit videos can be integrated into Canvas assignments so that your students’ performance on interactive content will be automatically scored and sent to your Canvas Gradebook.

Accessing PlayPosit via a Canvas Assignment

A “bulb” is the name given to an interactive video created in PlayPosit. A bulb can incorporate multiple video clips as well as questions, images, audio, and other media elements.

To access PlayPosit, create a bulb, and link the bulb to a Canvas assignment, you need to set up PlayPosit in Canvas Links to an external site..

  Tip: When the PlayPosit window opens, you may need to grab the handle in the bottom right corner and resize it in order to see all the information.

Creating a New PlayPosit Bulb

From the PlayPosit window, you are able to create a new bulb. To create a new PlayPosit bulb, click on the Add New Bulb button. This will open the PlayPosit designer in a new window.

Selecting Your Video Source

Within the PlayPosit designer, you are able to select your video source.

If you produced your course with COIP, then your videos will be located on Mediasite. Click the Mediasite button to search for your videos. Click on the “COIP” folder and then the “Public” folder; scroll through the list to find your course folder. Select your video from the list. (Note: If you cannot access the “COIP” folder, please contact your instructional designer to have your Mediasite permissions fixed.)

If you want to add additional video clips to your PlayPosit bulb, click on the “Add Video” button.

Once you have a video clip added to your bulb, you can add interactions Links to an external site. for your students.

Optional Customizations for Interactions

By selecting customize, instead of Done, you can add additional interaction options Links to an external site. for your students such as placement and timing.

Configuring Bulb Playback

Once you have interactions added to your bulb, you need to configure playback. Links to an external site.

After you have finished configuring your bulb, you will be prompted to close the PlayPosit designer and return to your Canvas LMS assignment. You should now see your newly created bulb on the list.

Setting Bulb Link to Canvas

Whether you want to use an existing bulb or created a new one, you must set your bulb link. Find your desired bulb on the list in the PlayPosit window. Click on the Canvas icon next to your desired bulb to “set bulb link.” Click the “link” button, and then click “select” from the Configure External Tool list. Your assignment should now be ready.

Grading

If you set up your bulb following these instructions, then PlayPosit should automatically score your students’ performance on interactive content and send those scores to your Canvas Gradebook.

If you included free-response questions in your bulb, or if you want to manually edit grades for auto-graded questions, then you will need to input those scores and sync scores with the Canvas Gradebook Links to an external site..

Monitor Your Bulb

If you would like to monitor learner responses Links to an external site., you click on the Canvas assignment and then select Monitor in the PlayPosit window. You can view all student interactions and scores and export the data.
