Module: Hazardous Materials

The chapter will not deal with the ordinary incidents involving chemicals and other products that emergency responders handle almost daily. The focus will be on the hazardous materials incidents that cause, or have the potential to cause, a major disaster. The chapter will also briefly examine the hazardous materials portion of the WMD events.

Objectives

After this module, the student will be able to:

• Describe the causes of hazmat disasters
• Recall the ways that hazmat disasters can be prevented
• Identify some types of hazardous materials disasters
• Define hazardous materials disasters
• Develop the hazardous materials plan
