Course Syllabus
When and Where: M,W,F (11:45 AM - 12:35 PM), NPB 1200
Summary of Topics: To minimize overlap with PHZ 7428 Modern Condensed Matter Physics (except for unavoidable topics such as second quantization), this course will focus on a different set of topics compared to previous years. The topics we will cover include the following:
1. Second Quantization
2. Bloch Theorem, Wannier Function, and Tight-Binding Models
3. Symmetries in Solids
4. Topological Phases of Matter I: Noninteracting
5. Topological Phases of Matter II: Interacting
6. Ginzberg-Landau Theory of Symmetry Breaking
7. Electron-Phonon Coupling and Superconductivity
8. Linear Response and Quantum Geometry
Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity: I am committed to providing every student with a safe, inclusive, and diverse learning environment that fosters personalized engagement with the course material. This includes respecting and valuing diversity in gender, sexuality, ethnicity, race, culture, socioeconomic status, age, and accommodations. Suggestions and feedback are always welcome.
