Module 3 Discussion

Instructions

Most of us are very familiar with the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2019. Describe how you would handle a pandemic currently if it should occur, similar to the COVID pandemic. Use the changes you made as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In your initial original post, be sure to define the following:

• The type of communicable or infectious disease it would be.
• Classified as a pandemic or epidemic.
• How past pandemics affect your thinking.
• Precautions you would implement
• How you would medically manage both patients and your personnel during said event. 
• How you think this next pandemic could affect our world globally.

Provide critical feedback and reply to at least two other student's posts, questioning any information provided or adding your recommendations. Saying good job or great information is not critical feedback. Discussions are meant to be discussions with back-and-forth dialogue. See the syllabus for a reminder of expectations for participation in all course discussions.

Guidelines and Grading

This discussion is worth 20 points and measures the following objectives:

• Define communicable disease and infectious disease.
• Discuss the infectious disease materials: viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
• Define a pandemic and an epidemic.
• Discuss the impact pandemics have made on the world population in the last thousand years.
• Describe key developments in managing a pandemic.
• Discuss the basic principles of communicable disease.
• Describe the key components of Universal Precautions for the healthcare workforce.
• Discuss response and medical management strategies for a pandemic event.
• Describe the impact a potential pandemic would have on the healthcare workforce.

Discussions will be graded using the following criteria:

• Initial original post submission
• Initial original post content
• Response to peers
• Citation formatting
• Spelling and grammar
