• Examine the risks and liabilities for divers and water rescuers.
• Discuss the advantages of having a water rescue and dive team.
• Explain the training requirements for divers and water rescuers.
• Discuss funding considerations for creating a water rescue and dive team.
• Identify the need for a land-based search and rescue (SAR) response.
• Describe the different environments where a land-based SAR emergency might occur.
• Identify the hazards associated with a land-based SAR operation and what methods can be employed to reduce risk.
• Identify what additional emergency response personnel may be required and what their responsibilities are in the overall SAR mission.
• Describe the process for response planning and incident management in how it relates to a SAR operation.
• Describe the initial actions that a rescue team should take to prepare for a SAR operation.
• Describe the different types of search methods and when they should be utilized.
• Describe the various methods for transporting a subject from a wilderness environment.
